Grants team up with the Chieftains for charity
24/01/2012Last weekend we took to the streets of Chelmsford Town Centre accompanied by some of the Chelmsford Chieftains ice hockey squad to shout about our 'Win a Car' promotion which took place at the Essex Derby game between the Chelmsford Chieftains and Romford Raiders on Sunday.
The event was in aid of Autism Anglia, a local charity that both Grants and the Chieftains support. On the Saturday we spoke to lots of local people who love ice hockey but didn't realise they had a team on their doorstep! The added bonus was if they came along to this particular game they got the chance to win a sporty SEAT Ibiza courtesy of us!
Sunday saw huge crowds spilling in to Riverside Ice & Leisure Centre to watch what was going to be a key game in the league. We were on hand selling raffle tickets giving everyone the opportunity to win a chance to come out on the ice and have a go at winning the car.
At the end of the second period break the raffle was drawn and the lucky winner Ian Smith of Chelmsford came out on the ice with Katie and Darren Williams. With the Who Wants to be a Millionaire music in the background Ian was presented with 20 envelopes two of which contained the winning tickets for the car. Sadly the winning envelopes weren't chosen but Ian didn't go away empty handed as there were prizes in every envelope!
The game finished with the Romford Raiders beating us by 5 goals to 2 but we'll be behind the boys for their next game!
The great news is thanks to everyone's generosity we managed to raise £405 for Autism Anglia which will go to their Family Support Unit to continue the great work they do helping people on the autistic spectrum together with their families.
