Grants help Keep Britain Tidy
25/05/2011
Braintree District Council and local businesses including Grants SEAT have won two National Keep Britain Tidy awards for launching a successful anti-littering campaign in Braintree. All partners were delighted at winning not only the Best Initiative award but also the overall 'Keep Britian Tidy' award.
Darren Williams, Managing Director, said The Council was over the moon at receiving the national award and we are very proud to have been associated with this initiative."
Grants SEAT and seven other local businesses were approached by the council just over a year ago with the aim of ending a litter problem that was mostly caused by wrappings from a group of fast food outlets known as 'Cholesterol Corner'. The partners collaborated to circulate leaflets, give out car litter bags and report littering drivers - leading to the police issuing dozens of fixed penalty notices during the well-orchestrated crackdown.
The project brought fantastic results, and made the area much cleaner and more pleasant to work and visit.
The partnership members were:
- Grants SEAT
- McDonalds Braintree
- Busy Bees Nursery
- KFC Braintree
- Premier Inn
- Frankie and Benny's
- Westdrive Kia
- Pizza Hut Braintree
