Save Money on Fuel
28/03/2011The chancellor may have cut fuel duty by 1p as well as indefinitely cancelling the fuel duty escalator that adds an extra penny on top of inflation every year but we can help you cut costs further so read on for our four top tips:
Step 1: Get rid of the junk in your trunk (save up to 10%)
Added weight and resistance means your car must work harder and uses more fuel. So declutter, get rid off unused roof racks, keep tyres inflated and turn off the air con when not needed.
Step 2: The accelerator's a money pump (save up to 30%)
This is the BIG ONE. Stop accelarating so hard, monitor your road position so you can slow down gradually and not burn fuel braking.
Step 3: Pay less for your petrol (save up to 5%)
Use sites like petrolprices.com to find the cheapest petrol in your area.
Step 4: Share driving
An easy way to cut petrol costs is to drive less, or to share lifts to work with friends. A free site called Liftshare helps you find people doing the same journey to share with (please be safe though).
