Chieftains Charity Success
09/03/2011Following our story about the Ibiza Giveaway on Sunday 6th March we are delighted to report that the weekend was a roaring success!
On Saturday 5th March our stunning Chieftains Leon took pride of place in the middle of Chelmsford Town Centre accompanied by Frizzy Bear, the Chieftains Mascot, to let everyone know about the car giveaway planned for the following day at the Chelmsford Chieftains game against Invicta Dynamos.
We gave out over 2,000 flyers to shoppers which gave them reduced entry to the game and an opportunity to win a sporty SEAT Ibiza whilst helping our chosen charity Autism Anglia at the same time.
The atmosphere on Sunday night was electric with the game between the Chieftains and Invicta Dynamos just moments away. Tickets for the car giveaway sold like hotcakes and during the first period break we showcased the car in question around the ice rink for everyone to see!
The lucky person drawn to come out on to the ice and try and win the car was Peter Hazell accompanied by his son Matthew, both avid Chieftains supporters. They were then faced with 20 security sealed envelopes 2 of which contained the car. After a few tense moments Peter and Matthew chose an envelope each with everything crossed that they were the winning ones. Unfortunately they didn't win the car but didn't go away empty handed and won tickets to a Speedway race courtesy of Ipswich Speedway and a case of wine courtesy of Grants SEAT.
The most amazing part of the evening was the generosity of both the Chieftains and Dynamos fans who helped fill our collection tins up raising a staggering £475 for Autism Anglia which is not only our chosen charity but the Chelmsford Chieftains as well. On behalf of them we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that helped raise such a great sum of money.
Dan Bates, Fundraising and PR Co-ordinator for the charity said "I can't believe how much money has been raised, it's absolutely fantastic and will go towards helping our family support unit and they excellent work they do. It's not just the much needed funds that is so appreciated it's putting the charity in the spotlight and highlighting the work we do and the services we provide".
Just to top it off Chieftains beat Invicta 6 -3!!
